Ulrich Frank and Pierre Maier presented the multi-level-modeling tool XModelerML at this year's German-speaking Fachtagung Modellierung 2026 . Special emphasis has been put on the tool's application for modeling education. “This paper presents XModelerML©, a language development, modeling, and execution environment. XModelerML© enables the joint development of languages, models, and executable programs. Although not initially intended for use in education, it soon became clear that the collaborative editing of modeling languages, models, and their instances could also be beneficially applied in modeling education. Therefore, a dedicated UML version of XModelerML© was initially developed, in which concepts of multi-level modeling were hidden and the UML notation was adopted. In addition, interactive learning modules were integrated.
