At this year’s CAiSE (35th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering) in Zaragoza, the “Language Engineering for Multi-Level Modeling” (LE4MM) project received the “Most Influential Project” award. CAiSE is one of the leading international conferences in the field of systems analysis and systems engineering. In the LE4MM project, which has been carried out since 2011 together with Prof. Clark from Aston University, a new multi-level architecture for modeling and programming languages was developed. It enables a common representation of models and programs, so that the time-consuming and unsatisfactory synchronistation of different representations is no longer necessary. This enables architectures of software systems that allow users to navigate to models of the respective software and the context it is used in during runtime.
Modification of these models then leads directly to modification of the respective software. Thus, this approach creates an important foundation for more powerful enterprise software systems.

This language technology is provided in the XModeler^ML development and execution environment. The XModeler^ML enables the specification of modeling and programming languages on different classification levels.
All models created in this way are simultaneously programs and can be executed. The XModeler^ML is available on the project's web pages together with numerous videos, publications and examples.

Oracle, the leading vendor of database management systems, has donated $158,000 to the chair to promote research on multi-level language architectures.
