The conception, introduction and usage of adequate IT landscapes has gained importance in the past years. Especially the key term Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) is subject to many publications that deal with building a management of IT landscapes focusing on the needs and goals of an organization. Larger enterprises in particular develop frameworks that fit the specific challenges of the enterprise in order to guide the setup and use of an appropriate IT architecture.

Among these frameworks is the "Rahmenarchitektur IT-Steuerung Bund" that is primarily developed by the Bundesministerium des Innern (BMI, engl. Federal Ministry of the Interior). The Rahmenarchitektur IT-Steuerung Bund (RAITSB) takes account of the increasing importance and complexity of information technology in federal authorities. As part of a higher-level architecture management it is aimed at adjusting the supply and demand of IT services.

At the same time there are approaches from practice such as ITIL or COBIT that promise to support the management of IT organizations, which includes the shaping of IT landscapes.

The scientific study "Integration of COBIT and ITIL standards with the 'Rahmenarchitektur IT-Steuerung Bund'" aims at investigating the conceptual and procedural integrability of RAITSB with ITIL 3 and COBIT 4.1. Therefore, a crucial part of this project is to critically analyze the current state of RAITSB with regard to ITIL and COBIT. Based on the analysis results, guidance for the future development of RAITSB is provided, especially for improved integration with ITIL and COBIT.
